Wanted: EHS Professional

Citadel is seeking a full-time EHS professional with 8 to 10+ years of experience in industrial hygiene and safety consulting.  This position requires a mix of performing technical work for clients, performing internal management functions, and developing business through sales efforts.  The successful candidate will have a strong history of managing projects and servicing clients in a variety of industries.  This position will report into the Principal of Citadel’s Industrial Hygiene and Safety department and will support the company’s strategic growth initiative and backlog of existing work.  Most client locations are in Los Angeles and Orange County, and the employee can choose to work out of Citadel’s Glendale, Costa Mesa, or Valencia office locations. 

The successful candidate shall demonstrate strengths in the following technical areas:

  • Understanding health and safety regulatory requirements, specifically Cal/OSHA standards
  • Performing EHS compliance gap assessments, hazard analyses, and PPE assessments
  • Developing and implementing written safety programs such as IIPP, Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, Lock Out/Tag Out, etc.
  • Designing industrial hygiene strategies and conducting sampling for various chemical & physical hazards
  • Creating and delivering health and safety training
  • Performing the functions of a Health and Safety Manager or EHS Manager at a client facility
  • Working directly with local and federal agency representatives to address and mitigate compliance issues
  • Conducting comprehensive facility audits and assessing organizations from a systems perspective

In addition to technical responsibilities, the position will also have responsibility for client, project, and staff management and business development including the following:

  • Growing assigned client accounts by identifying new areas of opportunity for Citadel services, and successfully introducing Citadel services to decision-makers at the client company
  • Developing opportunities, including creating customized scopes of work and budgets, writing proposals, following up on contacts and meetings, and attending conferences and other marketing events.
  • Planning and managing projects and programs of varying size and complexity
  • Managing and mentoring Citadel consulting staff to increase our capabilities as a team

This position requires the following education, experience and skills:

  • Prior consulting experience
  • Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in chemistry, occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene or related
  • Ability to travel throughout Orange County and Los Angeles County
  • Success at building effective working relationships
  • Ability to expand customer relationships
  • Working knowledge of chemistry
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to gather and organize data from multiple sources and perform independent research

The following experience and certifications are highly desirable:

  • Professional certifications (such as CIH or CSP)
  • Experience in higher education EHS
  • Experience in working or functioning as a chemical hygiene officer, radiation safety officer, biosafety officer, and/or laser safety officer
  • Experience in aerospace and heavy industrial/manufacturing environment
  • Experience in healthcare, biotech, pharma, or medical device industries

Wanted: Project or Senior Project-level Engineer

 Citadel Environmental Services, Inc. seeks a Project or Senior Project-level Engineer to participate in field work and management of staff and high-profile Engineering and Environmental Science related projects. The successful candidate will have significant experience with federal and state regulations and interaction with regulatory authorities including EPA, DTSC, RWQCB, and so on. Candidate should possess solid experience managing Phase I ESA’s and Phase II Environmental Investigations, designing soil and groundwater remediation systems both in-situ and ex-situ, developing methane mitigation measures and preparing work plans, Remedial and Corrective Action Plans, and Site Safety Plans. Experience with landfill testing and LFG mitigation system design a real plus.  Willingness to travel, work after hours and weekends as projects require; good physical health and ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment, including respirators; a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.  Ideal candidate will possess 5 to 10 years of progressive experience.

Skills/Qualifications:

1. BS in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related experience required.

2. Minimum five years of management experience. With at least ten years of progressive experience in the environmental field. Project lead and staff mentoring experience required.

3. Registration as a Professional Engineer desired, EIT/FE with ability to obtain PE or QSD within 1 year of hire is acceptable. 

4. 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification desired.

5. Experience preparing Phase II Environmental Investigations, designing treatment systems, preparing and managing Remedial Action Plans, Site Safety Plans.

6. Self-Starter and responsiveness is a must, with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

7. Knowledge of construction management, Proficient with MS Office, Outlook, Word and Excel skills, CADD, Blue Beam, and environmental modeling programs.

8. Should possess good communication, organizational skills and time management practices.

9. Limited travel may be required.

Job Description:

Citadel Environmental Services, Inc. seeks a staff-level environmental engineer, geologist, or specialist to assist with a diverse set of projects from a growing client base.  The successful candidate is expected to work in Citadel’s headquarters in Glendale, but we may consider a position in our Costa Mesa office.  Limited travel throughout California is anticipated.  The Candidate should possess experience conducting and writing Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and Phase II Environmental Investigations reports, performing tasks related to collection of soil and groundwater samples, operating and maintaining soil and groundwater sampling and monitoring equipment , preparing and managing a variety of work reports and plans including Work Plans, Soil Management Plans, Health and Safety Plans, Risk-Based Assessments, Conceptual Site Models and other similar documents.

The Candidate should have well-developed computer skills, as well as written and interpersonal communication skills.  Requirements of this position include: strong organizational abilities and strict attention to detail; a willingness to travel, work nights and weekends as projects require; good physical health and ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment; and a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.  Ideal candidate will possess from two to four years of progressive experience.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. BS in Geology, Engineering, Environmental Studies or related and relevant experience;
  2. Minimum two years of related experience;
  3. 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification desired;
  4. Current holder of an EiT or GiT certificate, or ability to obtain within one year of employment desired;
  5. On track for licensure as a Professional Engineer, Geologist or other relevant professional certification;
  6. Meets the definition of “Environmental Professional” under AAI;
  7. Experience conducting/preparing Phase I ESA’s and Phase II Environmental Investigations, preparing and managing Work Plans, Site Safety Plans, and other reports as required.
